Assumption Life’s 11th annual Bobby Orr Benefit Golf Tournament raises $100, 000

Assumption Life President and CEO André Vincent, on hand for the event, was overwhelmed by participants’ big- heartedness and community spirit. “What an unforgettable day! I was deeply moved to have so many members of thebusiness community join us, from as far away as Montreal, Calgary and Newfoundland, in support of a cause we all care so much about. And I’m very proud of the role our company plays in this key ACRI fundraiser,” hesaid. “We are very lucky to have Mr. Orr with us again this year. His charisma and generosity toward the players is remarkable.”



Strong support for leading-edge research

Over the years, this much-anticipated event has become an important source of funds for ACRI. ACRI President and Scientific Director Rodney Ouellette is grateful for everything the BobbyOrr Benefit Golf Tournament has done for the Institute. “The money raised over the past 11years brings us one step closer to making major breakthroughs and finding solutions that will make a difference in the lives of cancer patients. One in three Atlantic Canadians will be diagnosed with this terrible disease during their lifetime. Events like this one show how much the business community cares and understands the impact of research and innovation on public health and wellness,” Dr.Ouellette commented.



A stellar reputation

The annual benefit golf tournament enjoys a consistently high turnout and is proud to be able to count on the involvement and generosity of legendary Boston Bruins defensemanBobby Orr. This year, co-chairs André Vincent, President and CEO of Assumption Life, and Larry Nelson, President and CEO of the Lounsbury Group, succeeded in bringing together a number of prominent business professionals and other notable guests, including Olympic medallist in curling Russ Howard and New Brunswick Premier David Alward. The event is a joint effort of Assumption Life and the Lounsbury Group with the help of General Motors. “We greatly appreciate the opportunity to work with such tremendous partners as our honorary chair Bobby Orr, our colleagues at Lounsbury and the many golfers, sponsors and volunteers who respond to our appeal year after year and step up to help a cause that affects each and every one of us,” Mr.Vincent added.

The Atlantic Cancer Research Institute is a non-profit organization founded in 1998. With its ultramodern facilities, ACRI has become a true centre for excellence in cancer research. The three main areas of development being pursued by the Institute’s scientists are early detection, enhanced diagnosis and targeted treatment. Its multidisciplinary team of approximately 30people have expertise in genomics, proteomics, molecular biology, cell biology, bioinformatics, immunology, synthetic and organic chemistry, pathology, mass spectrometry and in vitro and in vivo testing. Through its work, ACRI is contributing to the global research effort aimed at combattingcancer.
