Sophie LeBlanc shows Filio at the Assumption Gallery

The Assumption Gallery will be exhibiting Sophie LeBlanc’s Filio in March and April. This young New Brunswick artist will present a collection of 13 paintings in different formats. This will be her first gallery exhibition.
 
Filio comes from the combination of the words “wire” and “new.” The paintings she presents are made using wires, which is her signature touch, and acrylic, water colour and spray paint.
 
“I have always had an interest in visual arts,” Sophie LeBlanc said. “When I was young, I always had a pencil, markers and paper on hand to escape into an imaginary world. The single-line drawing is my main source of inspiration.”
 
Sophie creates modern, minimalist works with no unnecessary elements or superfluous brush strokes. “I tend to create from what is inspiring me in the moment…animals, flowers or people,” she says. “I don’t really have a preferred subject, and that allows me to fully exploit my creativity.” Sometimes she draws inspiration from the concrete and sometimes from the abstract.
 
She would like visitors to the exhibition to gain a new perspective on the arts, one that goes beyond paint on canvas. “A painting comes to life in the eye of the beholder,” she says. “My paintings don’t have a particular message.”
 
The New Brunswick artist is just starting out. She first posted a few paintings on Facebook to get feedback from the people she knows. She gained confidence and is now throwing herself into exhibitions. Sophie LeBlanc says she is still in the exploration phase.
 
Sophie LeBlanc works full time as a campus recruitment agent at the Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick. She was born in Moncton, where she still lives.
 
The Assumption Gallery exhibits contemporary, modern and popular art, traditional and folk art, as well as sculptures and photographs by professional Canadian artists. Six two-month exhibitions are presented every year. The Gallery is located at 770 Main St. in Moncton, on the ground floor of Assumption Place.
