Mario Cyr presents Dancing Queen at the Assumption Gallery

11/2/2016 12:00:00 AM

The Assumption Gallery will be hosting an exhibition by New Brunswick-based visual artist Mario Cyr, entitled Dancing Queen, in November and December 2016. The exhibition—his first at the Assumption Gallery—will include a selection of 10 oil paintings. “Named after the Abba song, Dancing Queen is a continuation of my preceding series, to which I added a dance track to celebrate the creative process. Each work in this project will feature a dancing queen in action”, said Mr. Cyr.

Mr. Cyr will be exhibiting a series of “preparatory” paintings, which represent a transition from his “Abstract Incubationist” approach to “The Figurative in Motion”.

As a visual artist, Mr. Cyr has gained special distinction for his creative methods. Over the past dozen years, he has developed and experimented with what he has dubbed “The Jazzy Incubator” approach, which enables him to capture the energy of the spoken word and transform it into visual art. The ensuing spontaneous discussions and in-depth deliberations lie at the heart of his work.

“I like exploring how the evolving spirit moves. My art draws sustenance from the 'landscapes' that appear during philosophical discussions by small groups sitting around a dinner table, as well as on large stages during conferences when the public can respond to the various questions I raise. The pleasure associated with this process is often hidden amid a state of disorder,” said Mr. Cyr.

“My brush techniques haven't changed very much. However, my technique for producing creative energy keeps on evolving,” noted Mr. Cyr. Over the course of his 30-year career, the artist has developed a wide range of works, including Parlour Games, The Incubator, Incubationist Art Symposiums and The Jazz Incubator. He has taken part in over 150 live creative performances in France, Romania and Canada, including the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Born in Saint Quentin, New Brunswick, Mario Cyr now lives in Moncton. He has presented some 30 solo exhibitions and taken part in an even larger number of group shows.

The Assumption Gallery exhibits contemporary, modern, and popular works inspired by history and folklore, as well as sculptures and photographs by professional Canadian artists. Six two-month shows are presented every year. The gallery is located at 770 Main Street, in Moncton, on the ground floor of Assumption Place.
