Cindy Duclos presents There is Sweet Music Here at Assumption Gallery.

For her first solo exhibition, photographer Cindy Duclos will be displaying eight large-format photographs depicting the beauty of botanicals at the Assumption Gallery during the months of July and August.

Duclos has used painting to explore self-expression since she was very young. Despite her love of the arts, she set aside her creativity for a while and built an 18-year career in dermocosmetics.

With the arrival of her first child, Duclos discovered her passion for photography. "I was constantly taking photos of my daughter, and people reacted very positively to them," she says. In 2012, she made the leap and plunged headlong into a career in photography. Today she is a professional photographer accredited in botany and fine arts works alongside Rachelle Richard-Leger at Image Authentik. Photography fills the desire to create for this artist from Pont Lafrance, New Brunswick.

There is sweet music here is a collection inspired by a piece of the same name. The photo was awarded the prestigious "Excellence" distinction at the Professional Photographers of Canada National Congress in Calgary last April. The image stood out from among the 900 works on display. Duclos’ photograph was decorated with a Judge's Choice ribbon and selected for the 2016 Professional Photographers of Canada permanent collection. "This photo was taken by making a long movement with my camera. It’s the movement of a flower’s petals, but I see music. This is what inspired the name of the work and of the collection," says the photographer.

Although Duclos enjoys photographing people, she also likes to capture all kinds of botanicals with her lens. "I like the light and colour of botanicals,” says the artist. “I always choose the most colourful flower and photograph it from all possible angles.” For this exhibition, Duclos has chosen a series of abstract botanical photographs. All very colourful and bright, the works leave room for the viewer’s interpretation. "I hope my work speaks to people and that they like what they see," says Duclos.

The Assumption Gallery exhibits contemporary, modern, and popular works inspired by history and folklore, as well as sculptures and photographs by professional Canadian artists. Six two-month shows are presented every year. The gallery is located at 770 Main Street, in Moncton, on the ground floor of Assumption Place.
