Suzanne Dallaire's "Au bord de la mer" at the Assumption Gallery

1/7/2014 12:00:00 AM

Starting today, the Assumption Gallery will be showing a collection of artworks by Suzanne Dallaire entitled "Au bord de la mer" [by the sea]. The artist, who has lived near the ocean all her life, has selected about a dozen of her seascapes, featuring dunes, beaches and other vivid and colourful seaside images. The exhibition will run until the end of February.

Born in Cocagne, Suzanne now lives in Grande-Digue, New Brunswick. A prominent attribute of her art is her use of lush, vibrant colours, which breathe life into her paintings. Suzanne worked for a long time with soft pastels, but for the past five years she has been painting only with acrylics. Graphic, stylized and very picturesque, her highly original works pulse with energy.

Before embarking on her career as an artist, Suzanne studied psychology at the University of Moncton from 1994 to 1998, and then graphic design at CCNB Dieppe from 1998 to 2000. She has been painting full-time since 2002. From 2003 to 2009, she also owned and operated the Mosaïque Art Gallery and Mosaïque Café.

Her paintings are currently on display at Serindipin’Art in St.Andrews, NB and the Out of Hand Gallery in Lunenburg, NS. As of May 2014, her artworks will also be featured at the Shephard Art Gallery in Charlottetown, PEI.

The Assumption Gallery exhibits works of contemporary, modern and popular art, works based on history and folklore and sculptures and photographs by professional Canadian artists. Six two-month exhibitions are presented every year. The Gallery is located at770 Main Street in Moncton, on the ground floor of Assumption Place, and is open Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
