Assumption Life presents the exhibition
Regard sur la nature by Luc Dugas at the Assumption Gallery beginning January 7. The New Brunswick artist will be showing 20 paintings during this exhibition that runs January and February 2013.
The Caraquet native Luc Dugas is a self-taught artist. He discovered his passion for drawing and painting at a young age. He first became known to the community with his airbrushed commercial designs on T-shirts, motorcycles and cars.
Fuelled by the freedom of airbrushing, the artist explores a range of media, including painting, pigment and ink. Luc Dugas’s unique style combines airbrush and paintbrush techniques. He first paints in acrylic, and then finishes his canvasses using the paintbrush and airbrush. “I tend toward realism, and my technique gives my works a photographic effect,” the artist says.
Dugas’s passion for visual arts took shape in 2006. “Since my first show at the Festival des arts visuels en Atlantique (FAVA) in 2006, my creative passion has only grown,” says the artist, who has been devoting himself to painting for a little over two years. “It’s what propels me to exhibit my work around the province.”
Regard sur la nature is a study of butterflies, birds and flowers. “I often work with flowers, because I can play with curves, shapes, light and shadow,” Luc Dugas says. “I love immortalizing them in painting. It’s my way of remembering the beautiful things that surround us.”
The Assumption Gallery exhibits works of contemporary, modern or popular art, works based on history or folklore and sculptures and photographs by Canadian professional artists. Six two-month exhibits are presented each year. The Gallery is located at 770 Main Street in Moncton, on the ground floor of Assumption Place and is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
